Hillary Clinton, Less Than Truthful on Emails

Just as Donald Trump put himself on the ropes by his recent remarks and tweets, Hillary Clinton inflected some damage on her own campaign by being less than truthful about the FBI investigation into her private email server.  She falsely claimed that FBI director said that her remarks to the American public about her use of that server were truthful. He did not say that.

Clinton’s exact words are, “Director Comey said my answers were truthful, and what I’ve said is consistent with what I have told the American people, that there were decisions discussed and made to classify retroactively certain of the emails.”

Director Comey did testify before Congress that there is no reason to believe that Hillary Clinton lied in her testimony to the FBI, but he did not say that her public remarks were truthful. He also testified that some of the emails that passed through her private email server were indeed classified at the time they were sent or received.

Why would Hillary Clinton make public statements that are so easily disproved? I cannot answer that question, but I do know that such incidents add to her reputation for dishonesty. When asked about her email server, why couldn’t she simply reply, “The FBI has cleared me of any charges regarding my private email server. Next question!” Better yet, she might have said, “I made a mistake by using a private email server. I didn’t realize at the time that that was wrong, but I do now. I would like to apologize to the American people for not having used a government email account to conduct government business.”

Despite Hillary Clinton’s less than honest public pronouncements and her ties to very wealthy Americans, I am going to vote for her. She is a less than ideal candidate, but her untruthful remarks pale compared to the bizarre utterances of Donald Trump. I believe that Hillary Clinton has the ability to serve as president of the United States, and I believe that she is sane. Donald Trump possesses neither of those qualities.

I think that Hillary Clinton knows that some of her statements are not completely truthful. In Donal Trump’s case, I think that he is so out of touch reality that he actually believes the nonsense that he spouts.
